Renaissance Faire

If you're tired of boring weekend dates at the movie theaters, have we got a treat for you. It's called the Renaissance Faire and it's been delighting people of all ages for years.

What is it? The Renaissance Faire is a re-enactment of Renaissance times. It's usually held somewhere in the country where Usually held in a big open field. People will dress up in Renaissance style clothes (called “garb” by insiders) and act as though they are in Europe during Renaissance times. But it's not just the workers who get into the spirit…many visitors also get dressed up and enjoy acting the part. Most of the big festivals will rent costumes by the day for about $30.

What's there? What can I do? There are so many things to do and see at a Renaissance Faire. Most popular are the plays (usually Shakespeare) and jousting matches. You will also be able to see many short comedy skits and hear musicians playing. In addition to this, many craftspeople sell their goods…all things that you would find during Renaissance times. There is a lot of fine jewelry and artwork available.

What about food? Plenty of food is also available at the Renaissance Faire. Watch as the barmaid wipes down the counter with her skirt, or walk around eating a turkey drumstick with your hand. You'll also find hotdogs, ice cream, apple pie, baked potatoes and more.

What types of people go? Many different types of people go to the Renaissance Faire, but you'll primarily see young couples and families.

What's the best part? The best part about Renaissance Faire is You. Renaissance Faire can be whatever you make if it. There are so many incredible things to choose from that it's possible to find something to please everyone. It's great because it gets you out in the fresh air and enjoying the weather. You can dress up or not, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you'll be doing a lot of walking.
