Is also called California two-step, or Disco two-step is not the same thing as the country twostep.
Nightclub Two Step is a sexy, nightclub dance and does need to follow straight laced ballroom styling that is very similar to Salsa and some of the moves interchange between the two. It combines the grace and style of Waltz with sauciness of ChaCha or Salsa. The basic steps start with a rock step back away from each other leaders right foot followers right, and back, then they step to the leaders left. Then repeat the rock step but the opposite foot (leaders right back) the step takes eight beats in a quick - quick - slow pattern.
It was invented by Buddy Schwimmer when he was 15 around 1965 in Whitaker, Illinois. He didn't open a studio to teach until 1978 so some people say that it is newer then what it really is. It was modeled after an old "Surfer Stomp" pattern that was not comfortable to dance when the music slowed down.
Always start with the rock-step on beat one, never with the side step and go with the music. If you have learned any salsa or waltz the turns, wraps and passes blend well with the nightclub two step or nc2s as it is called in ballroom dance community.
It is a very easy dance to learn as a starting point for new dancers, and great to teach as a wedding dance (First Dance) to a engaged couple or their parents. It also is very flexible and blends well into the modern dance floor.
