How your body reacts to stress

in

Almost everyone has stress in their lives today. Most of us have a family to take care of, a home to care for, bills to pay, job responsibilities, a boss to answer to, people who look up to you for whatever reason, and much more to deal with on a day to day basis. And it all combines to create excessive amounts of stress which can be harmful to our body.

These daily responsibilities and constant activities are compounded by not getting enough sleep, and not taking time off to relax and rejuvenate. And when you put those necessities aside, our body's suffer in a variety of ways.

In most cases, the body's first message to you that you're over stressed is to give you headaches. Too often however, no one listens to the body's warnings with those headaches... they simply take a pill to make the headache go away, and they go about heaping on additional stress and burdens.

Suppressing the body's warnings about your stress levels leads to additional major problems in the future though. Some people may simply start getting sick much easier and more often than normal. Catching even cold or flu bug that might come along. Other's may experience more unfortunate side effects though.

One way our body tells us it's had too much stress is to simply break down. Emotional breakdowns are somewhat common for people who have subjected their body to too much stress for too long for instance. Physical breakdowns can occur too though. The body will simply collapse from exhaustion, or it may give you more severe warning signals such as panic attacks, chest pains, or other indicators that resemble severe health issues.

When these types of warnings occur, most people end up in the hospital. And even though it's found that there is no major health issue - a person with chest pains or limited breathing didn't actually have a heart attack for instance - the end result is that the body got what it needed: rest. It put you in a hospital bed, and that gave it the much needed rest it required.

Now not everyone's body will give them warnings about their stress levels in the same ways. Some people for instance, may simply have a flare up of acne blemishes on their face when they're over stressed. Others however, may develop a full blown skin rash somewhere on their body.

The end results are the same regardless though. If your body is sending you messages about your stress levels, then you need to listen to it and respond appropriately as soon as possible. Take some time to soak in a hot bubble bath for instance, while listening to your favorite music. Take a nap or go to bed early once in awhile. And take time off for playing and pleasure too. Even if you're not able to go on a vacation, you can still take a day - or even just a few hours - to walk in the park or go do something fun. Your body will thank you for it in both immediate and long term ways.
