What is Gyrotonics?

in

Using a three dimensional approach to exercise Gyrotonics focuses on proper breathing, circular patterns and body alignment. This system stimulates the internal body organs with a gentle massage and activates the nervous system to revitalize the energy flow in the body.

Although this system provides results on the same level as yoga, swimming, dance or gymnastics, the creator of the system and the exercise equipment that is used, Juliu Horvath strongly emphasizes that Gyrotonics are not derived from any of these systems.

The development of Gyrotonics is the result of his own personal experience with a debilitating condition and many years of studying exercise modalities. The focus of the system is to allow the muscles to be strengthened and stretched while at the same time the connective tissue around the joints of the body are stimulated and made stronger. The effectiveness of the system is enhanced by coordinating the breathing patterns to provide accelerated neuromuscular rejuvenation as well as cardiovascular stimulation.

In addition the Gyrotonic exercises are focused on providing the user with complete freedom in movement. For instance when using the professional pulley tower it can be adjusted to suit individual's of different body types and levels of physical endurance. In contrast to conventional exercise equipment that began and in with the jarring motion, the Gyrotonic exercise equipment provides a stable and constant resistance level. When using the equipment the movements are fluid and undulating which helped to increase the flexibility of the spine and increase equilibrium and awareness.

Because Juliu Horvath danced professionally, Gyrotonics was first used by dancers. But today, and has become extremely popular as an exercise methodology and is used by people from different walks of life all over the world. Most notably the system of exercise is considered to be one of the most "user friendly." It allows people regardless of their physical ability, strength or body type to take advantage of the benefits of a full spectrum exercise routine.

Many people who use the system of exercise are beginning to understand what the dancers who were first to use the system already know; when you are more physically and mentally flexible and balanced you can perform at your best.
