Vitamins are elements in nature which are essential to life. Since herbs are a source of vitamins, it's helpful to know more about which vitamins are particularly important and useful for various ailments and illnesses that come along in life. Mixing vitamins, minerals and herbs will usually give you the best health and wellness results in life. This is one of the reasons why we mix multiple herbs and foods together sometimes, because the mixtures provide us with more results than the individual elements do alone.
Now, if we were to eat the proper amount of fresh vegetables and fruits - particularly raw or lightly cooked ones - we wouldn't need to worry about adding vitamins and minerals through supplements or herbs. Even eating plenty of fruits and vegetables alone may not be enough these days though unfortunately, because many pesticides and chemicals are used when food is grown these days. The soil our foods are grown in is also depleted... severely in some cases... of the essential nutrients which the plants need to give us optimal health.
In addition to those problems, we also now have a lot more processed foods today than we did even forty or fifty years ago. Back in 1941, only about 10% of foods were processed. By 1993 or so though, that had risen to at least 50%. And chronic illness and disease has risen drastically in that same time frame.
Vitamins are a way to help counter effect those drastic changes in our world today. They help make our bodies stronger, healthier, and able to fight off disease, illness, and infections much more effectively.
Herbalists and natural medicine specialists feel that most - if not all - of today's illness and chronic diseases are caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies. More and more scientific research is beginning to support these beliefs too. It is now known that increasing levels of certain vitamins and nutrients in our daily lives will actually help reduce and alleviate many medical problems. In some cases, the proper amount of vitamins and nutrition can actually reverse common health problems too.
There are a large number of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals our bodies need on a daily basis though. So many in fact, that it would be ludicrus to think each one could be taken individually as a supplement. Fresh fruits and raw vegetables though, along with herbal supplements, are power packed with a large variety of vitamins and minerals naturally. This is why we're told to eat more fruits and vegetables, and this is also why some people use herbal supplements in place of synthetic vitamins too. Because you can get much more of a wider variety of essential vitamins, just by eating certain foods and plant based herbs or supplements.
