Natural and Herbal Remedies for Blood Sugar Problems

Millions of Americans have chronic high blood sugar problems commonly known as Diabetes. Millions more have problems with their blood sugar levels fluctuating wildly throughout the day... sometimes spiking at quite high levels, and sometimes dropping dangerously low.

Both high and low blood sugar problems are forms of Diabetes. High blood sugar is the most common form, and it's also known as hyperglycemia. Low blood sugar problems however, are also on the rise in Americans, and this is known as hypoglycemia. Often low blood sugar issues can be an indication that you'll develop high blood sugar problems in the future.

Insulin resistance is a newer term being used by medical professionals today, and it's often used in conjunction with another new term: Pre-diabetes. With this condition, your body's cells are unable to use insulin effectively, thus you end up with higher than normal amounts of both glucose and insulin running through your blood stream. This condition is worsened by extra body fat, because fat keeps your muscles and other cells from being able to properly absorb the glucose.

Insulin resistance and pre-diabetes are both conditions which often lead to the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. Usually Diabetes develops in insulin resistant people within about 10 years of the insulin resistance starting.

Diabetes is linked genetics, and some races are known to have much higher rates of Diabetes than others. African Americans and Native American Indians are at the greatest risk for developing adult onset Diabetes. But it's also becoming increasingly obvious that Diabetes, Hypoglycemia, and Insulin resistance are all linked to dietary issues too.

Eating foods with too much sugar content, and too much simple carbohydrates can seriously knock your blood sugar levels out of whack. And American's particularly consume these with a passion these days. These types of foods also create obesity, and this is also a known common cause of having blood sugar problems.

In fact, loosing weight is the number one natural way to control Type 2 Diabetes and Insulin Resistance. Reducing your intake of sugars and simple carbs also helps you lose weight, but it has an added natural effect too: It helps your body to start regulating it's blood sugar levels. The reduction of carbs and sugars is an extremely effective, natural way to control problems with low blood sugar actually, and it's wonderful for controlling severe high and low blood sugar swings too.

There are other natural remedies that help greatly with blood sugar problems too. A little known natural source of insulin for instance, is an herb called Golden Seal. This herb reduces blood sugar levels naturally, and can be quite helpful to Type 2 Diabetics. If you're taking insulin pills or shots though, be sure to keep a close eye on things if you add a daily Golden Seal supplement, because your blood sugar levels could get too low. Hypoglycemics should be extremely careful taking Golden Seal too, because your blood sugar could drop to dangerous levels. If you're hypoglycemic and have problems taking Golden Seal, you can use a different herb called Myrrh instead.
