It seems that there are so many times in life that we say that something has happened for a reason. At times this seems to be an over used cliché however there are times when unexpected outcomes occur, in what may seem like an unrelated issue. Some people think this is a coincidence and others believe that it is fate and still others believe in divine intervention, whatever you call it I know that it has touched my life and the life of my son.
My son had been married for two years and his wife was several months pregnant with their first child when he decided that it would be a good idea to increase the amount of life insurance that they carried. He looked up several life insurance quotes on the internet and was responding to two of the different companies that seemed to have great rates. He did find in getting life insurance quotes that the companies that offer the lowest premiums also require the most thorough health examination. This was not a concern for my son; he had been involved in several team sports through high school and college and had always passed all of his physicals. He is in good physical shape and is rarely sick.
He went in to the doctor for the examination for the life insurance. He is only twenty seven years old and a non-smoker so the life insurance quotes were very reasonable. He took the form that the insurance company required the doctor to fill out sign and return. The insurance company required several blood tests in addition to the physical examination. His physical went fine, however when he received the blood work back he discovered that his cholesterol was very high. The doctor was very concerned about the high numbers for someone that was so young. He requested that my son strictly watch his diet for a one month period of time and then repeat the test. The doctor wanted to make sure that the test was not measuring a flux due to poor diet proceeding the day of the test. The doctor told my son that if the level did not drop he was going to need to go on medication to avoid heart complications.
My son called me to tell me about getting the physical for the life insurance quotes and about the high level of cholesterol. He knew that my brother had died of heart disease at forty five, and that his children had high cholesterol levels. His second test came back the same. The doctor has started him on medication. The doctor feels that they will avoid an early heart attack or stroke through the use of the medication. Looking into life insurance quotes may have prevented an early heart attack for my son.
