Sure, hitting the beach seems like a great way to spend your spring break. Relaxing in the sun working on your tan, sipping drinks with little umbrellas. But then you also have to deal with crowds of people, getting so drunk that they might throw up, or do something that they might regret even more.
Suddenly it doesn't sound so good anymore.
But these off-beat spring break ideas may be just the thing you're looking for:
A Mystery Spot road trip. Mystery spots are places all over the world that have unusual properties. Balls roll uphill. Short people seem taller. Oddly, these are things that can't be explained. Get out your map and drive to any good Mystery Spots in your area.
Camping. While others are hitting the crowded touristy areas, how about getting away from it all with a few of your close friends? Camping could be the perfect way to do this. You'll be out in nature, but can enjoy the quiet.
Go abroad. Most people travel to the big beach destinations for spring break because they are often cheap. However, there are many other countries where the American dollar will go a long way. Check out Eastern Europe or Southeast Asia for some great deals.
Go to a big city. If you've never been, spring break is a great time to check out some of America's famous big cities. Catch a Broadway show in New York. Tour the stars' homes in Los Angeles. Or visit the many free museums in Washington D.C.
Volunteer. Spring break can be a great time to do some volunteer work. Programs like Habitat for Humanity will allow you to help those less fortunate while learning some new skills.
Whatever you choose to do for spring break, make sure that you plan ahead. Even cheap destinations will become more expensive if you book too late.
